“I want to put on the hijab, but I’m too scared”

This is a statement made by many Muslim women in today’s society. Finding it hard to adhere to the sunnah and fardh, we often find ourselves trying to fit into western norms. However, we must realise that the hijab liberates us rather than restrict us. Free from unwanted gaze, free from having one’s looks more highly regarded than their actual ability and allow us to become closer with Allah. This blog post will split the ‘Putting on Hijab’ journey into segments to make it seem less daunting and slowly adapt to modesty and hijab.

Social media

Nowadays, we are unfortunately very influenced by what we see on social media. It’s what makes influencers influencers’; they attempt to sell you a lifestyle. Given this, we must strive to follow more ‘influencers’ or accounts that follow the deen. Following women who wear the hijab will subconsciously motivate  you to wear it as you will see it on them.

Small Changes

Small changes can hugely benefit us in the long term. Wearing more modest clothing, getting rid of revealing outfits, wearing hijab more often, etc. However, we must realise that time on earth isn’t promised and we must try and live every day like it’s our last.

Refining your Circle

Similar to my point mentioned on social media, we are influenced by those around us. Try and make friends that remind you of the deen and inspire you to strive to be better. If you are having worries or doubts about the hijab, ask your hijabi friends for advice and reassurance; you don’t have to do it alone.

Family

Unfortunately, some people are brought up in families where the hijab isn’t allowed or is frowned upon. However, through all your struggles, you must remember who you are trying to please; Allah SWT. Disobeying our parents is hard when trying to prioritize the deen but you must remember that Allah is the All seeing and all-hearing, and your efforts and intentions isn’t going unnoticed.

In conclusion, wearing the hijab is a hard yet rewarding experience. Wake up everyday with the intention to praise Allah SWT and put all your trust in him. Remember that the hijab is fardh upon all of us, and we must act in accordance to the way of the sunnah and the Quran.
